Matt Riddle had a career in the UFC prior to his firing from that company, then he worked his way up the pro wrestling world to become a WWE Superstar before he was fired from there as well. Now, it appears that he may have a fresh start in boxing.

Matt Riddle was involved in a chaotic situation at NYC’s JFK Airport while he was on his way home from WWE’s Superstar Spectacle event in India. As Ringside News exclusively reported, multiple attempts were made to de-escalate the situation with Matt Riddle before things got physical. It was also told to us that Matt Riddle appeared to be intoxicated at the time. His name is valuable, and could add a big name to any marquee.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that talks are expected to start next week for Jake Paul vs Matt Riddle. That could be a fight that will draw a bit of attention.

Still, there were at least talks that were expected to take place this week regarding Jake Paul vs. Riddle. At best the talk right now should be categorized as very preliminary. Ultimately it’s a call that will be made on Paul’s side. If it’s boxing rules, it’s likely an easy safe fight for Paul and Riddle would be doing it for a payday. If it’s MMA rules, it’s intriguing because Paul would be younger and has been fighting while Riddle hasn’t, and the size isn’t an issue like it was with Paul boxing guys like Nate Diaz and Tyron Woodley. But Riddle has kept up his Jiu Jitsu training throughout his WWE career. There are wrestling companies who have shown interest but no deal is believed to be close to happening nor could any until 12/20 . The baggage that led to him being fired by WWE is obviously going to be a factor in any decision making by the companies.

WWE had to cancel some interesting plans for Matt Riddle when he was released. That being said, his story is far from over. Jake Paul may want to cash in on Riddle’s recent release, drawing obvious ties with his brother, Logan Paul’s, WWE contract.

Ringside News exclusively reported that Matt Riddle was fired from WWE after over two dozen incidents that drew backstage heat. He had simply burned all of his chances with the company.
